Newcastle and Darlington Offices
SWIIS Foster Care has offices in Newcastle and Darlington. Each office has a full multi-disciplinary team including social workers, teachers, health and support staff. We currently provide placements for approximately 80 children and young people of all ages with our carers who are spread from Northumberland to North Yorkshire.
Carers have regular training, support groups and access to a 24 hour advice and support service. Additional specialist training is offered in areas such as caring for children with disabilities, mother and baby placements and managing challenging behaviour. A rolling training and refresher programme in TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) is in place for all carers in the North East and there are opportunities to take up NVQ and other relevant training for those carers who wish to progress further.
We offer placements for children of all ages - including sibling groups and we have a high proportion of settled and confirmed long term matched placements. In the North East Region we work with a significant number of older children, young people with educational 'statements' and other complex needs including behavioural issues, health or disability ineeds, offending or other risky behaviour and a history of difficulties in previous placements. Our carers work in close partnership with placing authority social workers, schools, families and all others involved with each child to ensure their needs are fully understood and that appropriate support is put in place. We are proud of the outcomes our young people achieve in their placements and of the carers and staff who work with them all.
Our latest CSCI inspection report (received Jan 2007) describes our service as 'excellent'. Please follow this link to view the full report:
