Placement Process
To make a placement with SWIIS Foster Care contact the duty worker at your local Regional Office - see below for numbers:
The duty worker will take details on the phone and be able to advise whether a potentially suitable match is available. If a possible match is available, they will request full details including details of any special requirements, any available reports and risk assessments etc. and provide you with information about the proposed family - or families. It is SWIIS policy to share all information with carers to ensure that they are fully prepared for each placement and have the best available understanding of the needs of each child.
For planned placements SWIIS staff and carers are available to attend meetings and introductions prior to placement and this is seen as an important part of the planning and matching process. Where there may be questions of change of school or the need for other educational support, SWIIS Education staff will also be introduced at this stage. Information regarding health needs or disabilities is also shared with our health advisers within the team and their input is available at the planning stage to endure everything necessary is in place.
Wherever possible planning meetings and introductions will be held prior to the start of placement to ensure that all matching considerations have been taken into account and that everyone is clear about the placement plan. In short notice situations placement planning meetings may be combined with the placement agreement meeting which must take place within no more than 7 days of the young person being placed.
