SWIIS Foster Care Outcomes

Nassim's Story

Nassim (not real name) was placed with one of our carers in December 2006, on a ‘2 week placement’.

At the age of 8, Nassim had already experienced domestic violence and neglect, against a background of alcohol and drug abuse. From the onset of placement he needed Education and Health support.

He had already been excluded from mainstream school for aggressive behaviour, and needed some time in a special behavioural unit before being integrated into a new Primary school.

Our Education Support Worker supported Nassim during both his time in the special unit and in his new mainstream school by visiting him each week in class in order to help him develop his social skills.

Our Health Advisor worked alongside the carers to promote Nassim’s healthy lifestyle, and helped him become more aware of the long term benefits of a good diet.

Together with his Carers, he eventually joined a fitness club.

Now, 18 months later Nassim has left his Carers and returned home to his Mum.

Our Education Support worker helped with the transition of schools, and the Carers and Supervising Social Worker supported Mum and the Local Authority’s care plan throughout.

Nassim’s most important goal has been achieved. He is re-united with his family .....and he now has foster carers with whom he keeps in contact “cos they’ll want to know!”
