The commitment and dedication of foster parents who foster with Swiis Foster Care North East, has been celebrated at a ceremony in Durham Cathedral this week. This celebration, attended by some of the longest-serving foster parents at Swiis were thanked for more than a century of combined service.

Over 30 fostering families attended the appreciation ceremony at Durham Cathedral, hosted by Keith Stopher, National Director of Fostering and Alison Lawson, Registered Manager of Swiis. A mix of foster parents attended with twelve foster carers receiving long service awards and gifts from Swiis.

The ceremony began with Canon Michael Everitt of Durham Cathedral, who spoke of the vital positive changes foster parents make to children and young people’s lives. Canon Michael thanked and praised the Swiis foster parents who were receiving awards today and welcomed those new to fostering and wished them well on their fostering journey.

The first award went to Heather and Joe, who have celebrated over 15 years of fostering with Swiis. Swiis Foster Care’s Registered Manager, Alison Lawson said:

“You are both such an asset to the fostering community, having fostered many children in your 15 years of service. You have both fulfilled what’s on the tin and more in terms of the ingredients of a foster parent. Well done and thank you!

The remaining foster carers receiving long term awards received similar testimonies to the positive changes they have made to many children and young people they have fostered.

Swiis Foster Care’s National Director of Fostering handed out the appreciation of long-service awards and gave the following speech:

“Alongside the one century (plus) of combined fostering support achieved by foster parents with Swiis Foster Care in the North East, we are proud to also celebrate the commitment of the Swiis North East staff, who I am delighted to say, have also achieved an amazing century of combined service with Swiis. The exceptional stability of both foster parents and staff is one of the main contributors to the amazing outcomes for our children and young people in care across the North East ”
